A coalition born from community — and still growing. In 1986, eleven local churches came together with a shared conviction: no one in Moore County should have to face crisis alone. From that act of unity, the Sandhills Coalition for Human Care was born.
What began as an emergency food pantry and clothing closet has grown into a holistic network of services — rent and utility assistance, job-readiness support, back-to-school programs, and four resale shops whose proceeds directly fund community aid.
Forty years later, the Coalition is powered by 64 congregations, hundreds of volunteers, donors, and a dedicated staff — all united by one belief: compassion is most powerful when it’s local.
OUR MISSION
To alleviate hunger and financial strain for individuals and families in need — providing food, clothing, and emergency assistance while fostering pathways toward long-term stability through community partnership and compassionate care.
OUR VISIONTogether, we envision a stronger, more connected Moore County — where every household has the resources, dignity, and opportunity to build a self-sustaining future.
our valuesThe strength of the Coalition has always been found in the people behind it—churches, volunteers, donors, staff, and community partners united by a shared commitment to caring for our neighbors. These values are the foundation of everything we do.
01/ Compassion
Every interaction begins with empathy and respect.
02/ Dignity
We meet each person where they are, without judgment.
03/ Community
Collaboration and connection drive everything we do.
04/ Integrity
Transparency and trust are the foundation of our service.
05/ Stewardship
We honor every donation, volunteer hour, and resource with care.
06/ Empowerment
We help people move from crisis toward confidence and independence.
leadership & transparencyThe Coalition’s strength has always been its people. Our Covenant Churches represent the heart of this organization — congregations across Moore County who believe that faith is made visible through service. Together with the Board of Directors and partners like the Food Bank of Central & Eastern NC, Moore Free Clinic, St. Joseph’s Dental Program, Family Promise, and United Way, we form a care network that no single organization could build alone.
